Resources for the Book of Jonah The following section contains audio and textual resources specific to the book of Jonah. The Hebrew text of Jonah is presented and accompanied by links to the entire book of Jonah being read aloud in Modern Israeli Hebrew pronunciation. The primary intention was to provide the student with resources that help create a sound environment thereby facilitating the students ability to read aloud the Hebrew text of Jonah with ever-increasing precision, ease, and fluency; a skill that takes some time to develop but one that contributes in significant (though sometimes intangible) ways to other apsects of the acquisition of Hebrew, e.g., learning and maintaining vocabulary, memorization and retention of paradigmes, increased reading speed. |

Below you will find links to the text of Jonah divided up into passages. The text is taken directly from the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) in the form of scanned images. The audio files are in an MP3 format and so can be listened to with any standard media player. Note that two sets of files have been provided so that you can listened to the book of Jonah being read at normal speed and at a reduced speed (about 80% of normal). I would suggest that when you are simply listening to Jonah, be it active listening or passive listening (i.e., just having it going on in the background while you are doing something else), that you listen to it at normal speed. When, however, you are practicing your pronunciation and reading aloud, I would listen to it at reduced speed. By way of acknowledgement, the audio files in their original form are courtesy of Audio Scriptures International. I would recommend visiting their website to see the other audio and language resources they offer and perhaps making a small donation if you find their resources useful. |
